Tomlinson tweeted, “Devastated about the show tonight, hope everyone’s ok, I’ll be back! “Even though we didn’t play the show I felt all of your passion! Send you all love!”
A sudden hailstorm happened during Louis Tomlinson’s solo performance at Red Rocks Amphitheatre on Wednesday (June 21), sending audience members running for cover. When hail up to the size of tennis balls showered down on the crowd at the Morrison, Colorado open-air arena, seven individuals were taken to a nearby hospital for injuries, and scores more were treated on the spot, according to Denver’s 9 News.
Several hours after the incident that caused the show’s opening to be postponed after a significant delay, Tomlinson tweeted, “Devastated about the show tonight, hope everyone’s ok, I’ll be back! “Even though we didn’t play the show I felt all of your passion! Send you all love!”
In response to reports of numerous concertgoers being hit by hail and suffering injuries, the West Metro Fire Department tweeted that officers had been dispatched to the historic location. The severity of the injuries was initially unknown. A short while later, a follow-up tweet confirmed that seven people had been taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
An additional 80 to 90 people had been treated on the scene for injuries that included cuts, bumps, bruises, welts, and broken bones, according to reports. Terrifying social media posts showed people screaming and running away from the punishing ice storm.
According to 9 News, venue managers delayed the performance and advised attendees to take cover and seek shelter about 8 p.m. as a heavy rainstorm approached around 9 p.m., sending concertgoers running for cover.
The concert was officially postponed at 10:25 p.m. owing to a storm that reportedly produced at least one confirmed tornado in the vicinity. The all-clear was given a short while later, but then a second delay was announced about 9:15 p.m. There was no word on a make-up date for the performance as of the time of publication.
