Music streaming behemoth Spotify has unveiled “Echo” in an effort to highlight the rich cultural history of Indian classical music. All age groups listen to a lot of Indian classical instrumental music both in India and around the world, according to research.

 For instance, according to Spotify, India’s consumption of classical music increased by about 500% on the site over the previous 24 months.

Additionally, statistics indicate that younger listeners are mostly responsible for the rise; on Spotify, nearly 45% of Indian classical music listeners are under the age of 25.

Anuradha Pal, a tabla player and multi-percussionist, flautist Naveen Kumar, and sitar player Rishab Sharma are all featured on three new playlists created by Spotify Echo to commemorate World Music Day.

In Echo, Spotify will focus on a single musical instrument and explore its rich cultural heritage through interviews with musicians, a study into the instrument’s history, and other means.

Additionally, Spotify has revealed that its desktop app would be receiving a design makeover. The new “Your library” and “Now playing” sections, according to a blog post from the firm, align the desktop interface with the mobile version.
