After being rescued by “Ding Dong Keep It On” on “New York Night,” Medusa aka Bishop Briggs set the goal of earning her place in “The Masked Singer” finals. She fought back into the competition and defeated Mantis and Gargoyle in the “Battle of the Saved.”
She first sent California Roll home in the “Semi-Finals,” the five-piece she had first vanquished. The snake-headed singer sang her way through the “Quarter Finals (British Invasion Night)”.
Only Macaw stood between Medusa and the Golden Mask trophy when she dazzled panellists Nicole Scherzinger, Ken Jeong, Robin Thicke, and Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg her renditions of “Welcome to the Black Parade” by My Chemical Romance and “Elastic Heart” by Sia.
She continued, “This means so much to me, and, the fact that I got to end my journey with my sister’s favorite song, and, sadly she’s no longer here. It means so much. Truly, for my spirit and my soul, I really needed this. So, thank you.”
Bishop Briggs, a multi-platinum recording artist, was identified as Medusa at the conclusion of the show. The Season 9 winner joined previous winners T-Pain (Monster), Wayne Brady (Fox), Kandi Burruss (Night Angel), LeAnn Rimes (Sun), Nick Lachey (Piglet), Jewel (Queen of Hearts), Teyana Taylor (Firefly), and Amber Riley (Harp) in this club.
Calling this to be a “craziest and cooling thing ever”, she said, “I want to say the biggest congratulations to my huge competitor, David Archuleta.”
She said ” When I heard you in soundcheck I said, ‘Oh no!’ But, ‘Oh, yes!’. This has really been such a surreal journey and the fact that I got to sing an emo anthem means so much.”
She added, “When I was hearing David’s story, I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, look at us. A couple of emo kids here on this stage, unsure of who we are, not knowing if we wanted to continue on. And we made it! This has been the most incredible experience.”
The panellists made their last predictions as to who they felt was within Medusa before Bishop’s reveal. They were Susan Boyle (Ken), Grimes (Robin), Bishop Briggs (Nicole), and Fergie (Jenny).
